Chris/tine McLachlan

Chris/tine has a passion for people, doing hope within the community and has been actively involved in the LGBTIQ community for the past 20 years. Chris is a clinical psychologist and is currently employed by The Department of Health, KwaZulu-Natal at the Thuthuzela rape crises centre. They completed a Masters Degree in Social Sciences, clinical psychology, at the University of KwaZulu Natal and their research focused on: ‘Queering gender: An exploration of the subjective experience of the development of a transgender identity’. Chris presented papers at international as well as national conferences and presents workshops focusing on transgender health.  

Chris is an ordained minister / pastor in the Reforming Church and has completed a Masters in Practical Theology (cum laude), UNISA and a Masters in New Testament (cum laude), University of Johannesburg. They is a Doctoral candidate at Unisa and their research focuses on transgender and gender non-conforming people’s experience within healthcare. Chris is also an executive committee member of PsySSA’s gender and sexuality division and part of the core team developing African psychological guidelines regarding gender and sexual diversity.
